SIR CLIVE WOODWARD – High Performance & Leadership Speaker
A national Rugby hero, Sir Clive Woodward’s philosophies for winning and creating high-performance teams resonate across both the sporting and corporate worlds. As a keynote speaker, he draws from his experience as the Director of Sport for the British Olympic Association, achieving World Cup victory with England, and as a businessman.
The architect of Britain’s greatest rugby achievement, Sir Clive Woodward earned international acclaim and a knighthood after he led England’s players to World Cup glory in Australia in 2003.
He draws on his experience as a World Cup-winning Head Coach, as Director of Sport for Team GB at the British Olympic Association for the London 2012 Olympics, and as Founding Partner and Chairman of Captured (an online coaching software and synchronised app based on his coaching philosophy).
A former England International and British & Irish Lion himself, Clive immediately made his mark as Head Coach by introducing basic business principles, including setting long-term goals, attention to detail, and focusing on the personal development of individuals. During his tenure, England moved from 6th to the number 1-ranked team in the world, winning every trophy an England team can win.
In 2006, Sir Clive Woodward joined the British Olympic Association. As Team GB’s Director of Sport he worked in close partnership with key stakeholders in British Sport to support the national coaches and athletes at the Beijing & Vancouver Olympics as well as deliver Team GB’s most successful Olympic Games in the modern era at London 2012.
Sir Clive Woodward is ideally placed to explain the common thread between business and sport: he communicates the importance of thinking clearly under pressure and draws parallels between the structures of high-performance teams in both worlds.
As a member of the IOC’s Entourage Committee, Clive continues to support athlete and coach development. He is one of the initial members of the Entourage Commission (dedicated to supporting all aspects of an athlete’s development) and has been a member for the last 4 years.
Developed in partnership with Blenheim Chalcot and Google, his app – Captured – aims to capture and share knowledge in order to achieve high-performing individuals and teams. While the app enables any coach or athlete to adopt the method Clive initially developed with England Rugby, international sporting bodies such as The FA and The PGA are also utilising tool – the IOC made the software available to every athlete and coach at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
He is also Director of Sport for the Alpine Centre of Excellence (APEX2100), a high altitude performance centre being developed at 2100m in Tignes, France.
