Entrepreneur Speaker – Founder of Glasses Direct
Jamie Murray Wells is an entrepreneur and business speaker and founder of Glasses Direct, which he created and developed while he was still at University.
The optical market place had yet to establish a market leader in 2004. Jamie, over a period of 10 years, took his business and grew it to become Europe’s most extensive online glasses retailer shipping over a thousand pairs of glasses a day.
Jamie had a very hands-on approach, from managing the in-house development to handling the back-end process, and he ensuring customers all received their a bespoke physical product.
Glasses Direct was also a leading innovator it is field and launched new world first products including CustomEyes, the first commercialised virtual try-on software, and their four pair free Home Trial box.
AS the business grew, they acquired SunglassesShop.com in 2010 and LensOn.com in 2012 covering both the contact lens and sunglasses market.
In 2013 Jamies sold the business and joined Google UK where he is currently Industry Head of Retail. He has served as an advisor to the former Shadow Chancellor George Osborne on his New Enterprise Council from 2007 to 2010, and in 2015 he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
He is currently the Industry Head of Retail at Google UK.
