July Book of the Month – Ben Keene
Ahead of him speaking at the BNC Show this week, our book of the month is Ben Keene’s “Tribe Wanted: My Adventure on Paradise or Bust.”
Ben Keene is a social entrepreneur and founder of Tribewanted – a unique eco-tourism and social media adventure that turned into a five-part BBC Series.
Paradise or Bust is the fascinating adventure story following the ups and downs of a global online network of like-minded travellers and an indigenous Fijian community as they attempt to build a new life on a 200-acre island in the South Pacific.
All major decisions on the island were voted on by an online tribe that anyone around the world can join. There were many challenges to overcome.
- A fire swept the island,
- A military coup (delayed until the end of a rugby match!) brewed on the mainland
- A tropical cyclone threatened to wipe out the emerging village.
Online there were other challenges to fight, as accusations of scam artistry, tribal politics and the regular grind of debates and decision-making among Tribewanted’s 1000+ members pushed the adventure and the business to the very edge.
A fascinating book and an insightful speaker, Ben has worked on a number of start-up projects and has been involved in Virgin Startup helping new businesses get of the ground.
He is speaking at the BNC Show on the 10th July 2019 on sustainability and how we can all make a difference to improving our environment. For more information on the BNC Show please visit their website.
