Change is Possible by Michael Maisey
Our January 2025 Book of the Month is “Change is Possible – the Seven Stages to Healing Trauma” by Founder of the Change is Possible Project and Inspirational Speaker, Michael Maisey
ABOUT THE BOOK
In his second book, Change is Possible, the Seven Stages to Healing Trauma, Michael Maisey explores the seven stages of healing that enabled him to overcome a traumatic past. Born into poverty, his turbulent childhood was marred by neglect and sexual abuse at the age of five which set him on a path of self-destruction marked with addiction, a prison sentence and a suicide attempt.
“The trauma that shaped my life wasn’t just mine, it was inherited and one day, I decided it would stop with me. I committed to do the work that those before me hadn’t, to face the pain and break the cycle. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but I knew that if I didn’t face it, my children would inherit the pain. I refused to let that happen,” says Michael.
“I’m not a guru or a saint – I’m not even a doctor or a medical professional. I’m a man who has stumbled and risen, again and again. I’ve found a new way to live that allows me to break free from the past. I’ve found a way to create a life beyond my wildest dreams, and I believe others can too.”
The 7 stages of healing that Michael explores in the book are –
- Security – building a foundation of safety and trust
- Awareness – shining a light on the past
- Honesty – owning our truths
- Processing the pain – releasing trauma
- Connection – rediscovering the power of relationships
- Integration and moving forward – channeling lessons into something meaningful
- Peace – safeguarding your peace
